Hey, I'm having a problem on Windows XP.

I can't change my background and resolution normally as by right clicking, select properties, and changing them. It just appears blank.

The only way I could change it is by using nView Properties, and I am really annoyed that this is the only way to change it.

Can you guys help me out?

(And yes, I am using a LEGIT copy of Windows XP)

    Thanks

How odd, have you attempted to modify your themeui.dll file or tried to apply a third party VS?

    Try sfc /scannow

Check the following key in the registry

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System

make sure you don't have any NoDisp* values.

That's happened to me before through some sort of spyware or a virus. What I remember is some anti-spyware program that I ran afterwards to get rid of the ads also and curiously put the tabs back for me. Can't remember what program it was though..

Funny, I tried that, and I don't even have the file for System. All I have under that was Explorer and NonEnum.

    what about under HKLM?
create another user and log in with that account to see if it is system-wide setting or just your user account.

You may be able to just do a system restore.
