So is the new taskbar basically like apple's dock?

pin shortcuts to it and use that to be both a shortcut dock and taskbar?

No. Why do you want to compare the two?

The Windows 7 taskbar is an evolution of the taskbar that Windows has had since the mid 90's. It combines task management and quick launch, both of which have been in Windows since the Stone Age, with several new features.

    - Jump lists.
    - Win + # key combos.
    - Content (not just window) previews per task.
    - Grouping options.
    - Touch features.
    - Task status features (progress bar).

    No, it's not.

Why the persistance in getting the precise answer you WANT??

If your mind is made up, why bother asking?

hm.. how about the answer he wants without the answer he wants?

yes, it basically is like the apple dock, which is, basically, like the windows taskbar, which apple then stole the ideas from.

i bet he doesn't like that answer :)

Yes, aside from not looking like Apple's dock and not behaving like Apple's dock, it is EXACTLY like Apple's dock.

Sheesh, it seems to me that you're really trying to make a statement here, so why bother trying to hide it as a question?

Actually, how about you explain to us why you insist that it is like Apple's dock.

    Apple's Dock is Application Driven
Windows 7 Taskbar is Windows(or Instance) Driven

    Two completely different ideologies.

If you want to say one copied the other, then might as well look at the original OSes that came out because even the first windows had icons to the bottom of the screen that launched applications.

Because I think some people are too into NOT wanting to be like apple they don't see clearly.

It's both a quicklaunch and a taskbar in one, isn't that basically what apple's dock is?

I'm sure they probably stole the idea. Everyone steals from everyone. I really don't care?

I think you're assuming I am :( Maybe brush that chip off your shoulder

It might not look like it but it's basically the same thing, one singular bar with shortcuts AND taskbar

Isn't this more about people just seeing what has been there in one form or another since 1995 and feel no need to compare it to something that came along much later in a different OS?

If that is all you see in the taskbar, then that is evidence that you haven't used Windows 7, or are not very observant. I gave you a short and incomprehensive list of differences in my first post which you have also ignored.

You also seem to have overlooked the Edit button, which allows you to edit your posts, instead of replying en masse, repeatedly.

    I'm not comparing.

I'm just WONDERING if it's basically the same thing which apparently is.

Let me guess, people have such a pentup grudge against apple they ASSUMED i was just making a statement of saying "see, windows has to take from apple. apple is better than windows!"

I just like the apple dock sheesh

Because separate posts should be separate posts. I don't really like it when people edit extra parts into their posts that people might miss later..

Ok so it has more features than the apple dock. What's your point? I'm not ignoring this I just don't know what you want me to say.
Windows 7 taskbar > apple dock, I get it. No argument here.

In order to assert that one thing is like another thing, a comparison must be made. I will make another comparison that you may find illuminating.

A car is basically like an elephant. They share a set of similar features: namely, both use four mechanical constructs to produce motion. How useful is this abstraction to showing that an elephant is basically the same thing as a car? Not very.

Also, I question whether you're truly wondering or not. Wondering implies that there is a genuine question for which an answer is sought. What you've been doing in this thread is consistently repeating an opinion that the Taskbar is "basically the same thing" as Apple's dock.

I'm not fond of some very specific individuals that use Apple hardware, but Apple is a company, and I don't begrudge that entity for being what it is.

You haven't gotten "it" - I was pointing out some differences between the dock and the Taskbar. You'll also notice that the taskbar implements a Start Menu, and a notification area, clock, Show Desktop button. While I'm happy to point out differences, I am really being careful here to avoid concluding whether one is better than another.

Only because I think people are so insecure about it that they're going out of their way to show why Win 7 taskbar is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much better than apple's. I get it. But they're basically the same thing, so I got my answer.

Btw the only apple product i own is an ipod :/ and an apple 2gs I haven't used in 10 years.

So, if it looks like a zebra but meows like a kitten, what is it?

While you guys are thinking about that, this thread is closed because it has deteriorated into bickering(and the question has been answered).

In the future, try to make productive thread like, as mentioned, how the Windows 7 superbar can do this:
