Hi, in my uninstall programs, I have so many versions of Visual C++ Redistributables from installing so many games and programs. Do I need all the different versions for the respective programs or can I just use the latest one?

they don't take up that much space, why do you want to uninstall them ?

    There are a lot.
2005, 2008 and 2010 beta. Each in x86 and x64 assuming you have a 64bit os. If you have anything earlier you are either using very old programs or you might not need them at all.

In an ideal world you would not need 2005 anymore as it would have been replaced by 2008 which would be backwards compatible to 2005.

This does seem to be the case but many programs still check that 2005 is installed and say they need it. They dont seam to see 2008 or make us of it.

So I would just leave it alone. If you uninstall it the next program that needs it would just reinstall it anyway. Same goes for and Updates that you might have installed.

they don't replace each other. an app developed for the 2005er version uses exactly that: the 2005er version. not the 2008er version, not the 2010er.

so unless all the apps you used have by now upgraded to newer versions, no, you still need them.

what i do within my application view, is to "group by manufacturer". then i just collapse the microsoft group, as i never touch that anyways. then the rest is just the non-microsoft apps you use. cleans it up nicely.

3DMark06 installs the 2005 version but runs without problems with the 2008 version.
X64 version is only needed if you run X64 applications. Most applications are X32.
