Just keep it simple and use WMP. You don't need all the extra features and support for additional formats of foobar2000 or MediaMonkey if you're only playing MP3 files.

I stopped using it just recently because when I do it keeps downloading these media images all the time and my library is huge, it leaves hundreds of annoying hidden images. Now I know they're hidden, but that causes my OneDrive upon next sync if I format to take ages to check for ages and I get a lot of them duplicated it's no fun.

and no iTunes thank you, it comes bundled with the Bonjour virus which tracks all user habits and sends it to Apple. I know I can uninstall Bonjour and iTunes would still function, but the main reason I sold my iPhone 6 is to not ever have to deal with iTunes again. Using iTunes requires a PHD in nuclear science.

on their forums it seems like the project is dead.

I did like AIMP when I used it might just go back to that.

Try Foobar....they have lots of plugins for it. This is what I use now. It's free and clean to use. This is the program that replaced WinAMP after it closed shop and then resurrected but I never went back.

Uncheck these if you don't want WMP to auto-download album art and other media info from the Internet:

Doesn't mean it's downloading. This is what it looks like when it's downloading:

AIMP3 with AIMP History for internet radios (logs played songs), foobar2000 for everything else.

foobar2000 is really good and very quick for ripping your cd's to mp3, or lossless.
