I am going to buy a new laptop and am wondering if I should order it with 32 or 64 bit Vista. It is a Toshiba Qosmio X300-11t and only comes with 3GB Ram but I plan to upgrade that.
There is A LOT of software I use and I expect there may be some conflicts that I would like to ask you about, as Im not sure.
Adobe CS3
7Zip (just too useful for me to change)
Daemon Tools, I dont like to carry disks around with me
I also have a genius PnP tablet, MousePen
and a couple games, like Team Fortress 2, Counter Strike:Source, Fallout 3 and Left for Dead(when steam releases them), Vent too
Many thanks my frisky bunnies!!

64 bit rules. Much stable and secure than the 32 bit version. Drivers have matured to such an extent that you don't need to worry running your games and softwares on the 64 bit platform unless they are horribly obsolete.

Just what I wanted to hear!!
Many thanks mate! -
If you can get 64bit to work, it is much more stable than 32bit. It uses the 4GB verses 3GB. I found all of the current 32bit software to work fine. 64 bit drivers are necessay for the OS but the applications that use them can be 32bit. 64bit applications would really take advantage for the 64bit OS but are not necessary.

I like Vista X64 ... also ... but, it still deos NOT support or work with everything.
I have some freeware programs that used to work really good in XP PRO ... but choke (not work) with Vista X64 ... for example: SUPER 2008.33, FAVC 1.07, ...

Guys,
All the softwares you folks mentioned are "Payware" ... I am strictly a "Freeware" user ... and only mess around with DVDs, Videos, Music and stuff ... and unfortuantely the Freewares are built by the Enthusiast based on the software that he/she can afford to have on theri machine. So, can't expect special customer support for Vista.
Thanks!

HMMM I WONDER IF IT WOULD WORK
It's not that hard to figure out sometimes. -
Guys Try IZarc
http://www.izarc.org/download.html
it has Vista x64 bit shell support and supports several format -
Only thing on your list I would suspect is the mouse / tablet, just check that 64bit drivers are available for them if they need some. Everything else has 64bit versions available or will just run under Vista 64.
I use it on my laptop and desktop with no problems at all. I do alot of video work with stuff such as VirtualDub, Lame, DVDx etc and they all work fine (lame needs a command line change to install the 32bit code in Vista 64 but it does work). -

The worst for me is I have used Infoselect Pim for years and I can not get the thing to run in 64 bit. It is not free and I refuse to pay another $100 bucks for it. There is just not anything else that works the same way with random info input and search. I'm trying Essential Pim but it's not even close. Oh well. -

I am in your Camp for "Freeware" and unfortuantely laptop came with Visat X64 ...
Q: Do you mess around with any DVD and Video freeware!?!? If so, have you worked with FAVC 1.07 and how do you skin that cat ... because it chokes big time for me. Even it's 64-bit flavor.
Thanks,
G! -
Edit: Some people swear by Format Factory for conversions. Not sure how 64 friendly it is http://www.formatoz.com/
I know it says 32.
Favc has 64 version but I'm sure you tried that already.
I see the 64 stuff is slim pickins. -
I have tried all Versions of FAVC in both the 32-bit and 64-bit flavor and no go ... Choke city!
But I have to try the "Format Factory" .. new one to me.
Thanks!
