I'd like to make a total backup of my computer, except not so total. I want to exclude all my folders with things such as music, pictures, downloads etc. What can I do that will let me do that?

I thought with Acronis you could exclude certain files types from backup....you may want to check the manual. ;)

The easiest thing would be to move the files / folders you don't want backed up to a different drive.

If that is not possible (only 1 drive available), then put them on a USB stick during the backup process.

    http://www.tech-pro.net/how-to-backup-data-with-acronis-true-image.html

    Extract:

"Once you select the Backup Type, click Next and the wizard will further prompt you to select options according to your Backup Type selection. For example, selecting My computer allows you to backup whole disk partitions to preserve the current state of your computer, selecting My Data allows you to backup specific data (files, folders etc.), selecting My Application Settings allows you to save installed application settings to a backup archive."

    cheers ...

Sorry, "image" by definition means an entire partition or even disk. Store your data on a separate partition, then you can (re-)image your system partition containing the OS and applications without affecting your data.
