I am trying to use a regular webcam to record my house during the day. What kind of software would you all recommend to just save all the video throughout the day that the webcam has taken? I'm trying to set up something for my family since out house just got broken into. Any recommendations would be great. Thanks!

Yawcam is basic and free one

It has motion detector, scheduler and you can view it remotely.

and what happens when your laptop gets lifted?

You might be better off with a 'webcam' or three that can upload their images to an on-line storage web site.

Sony webcam name..lol.. It just sounds cool when it's associated with motion detection. But I was going to add earlier that Yawcam does support uploading to FTP, HTTP, and streaming.

Snatch and grab thieves will grab everything they can carry and sort it out later.

Basing your 'home security' on the theory that a computer in plain sight might not be worth taking is kind of silly.
