I downloaded the latest dox nvidia drivers to use, so i booted into safe mode using the msconfig method, then uninstalled my drivers, restarted and now its in permanent safe mode and always goes to a black screen where all 4 corners say safe mode and top center says 'windows vista service pack 1 (build 6001).

Is there a fix to this, i have tried..safe mode on the start up screen, safe mode with command prompt to get into msconfig, its a success to change but saving these changes and restart it just freezes, used my vista disc to repair startup but no problems found and now i have the unused XP as a backup to back up the vista hard drive in case of a format is needed, but before that, is there a way to hack the bootup files...make it non safe mode and install the graphics drivers..problem is no icons, image or task bar, just the black screen and a mouse cursor, task manager does not open either.

I believe you might have messed up your MBR. So I would recommend a full windows repair.

If you've messed up your MBR (or your partition tables), a clean reinstallation will always do the trick. Short of that, you might try Partition Table Doctor from EASEUS. The free trial will allow you to analyze the system to determine what's been corrupted; however, you will have to buy a license to actually fix anything with PTD - still, when you're in a sticky situation, it might be worth it (it was for me, when I muffed the partition tables on my wife's system recently :D).
