This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. For current discussions, many NBR forum users moved over to NotebookTalk.net after the shutdown.

    Someone else's XP?

    So I was thinking... say a friend of mine decides he wants to upgrade to Vista, and he still has his XP install disc, and the product ID to unlock it upon installation, even if he still sort of has it on his computer(because he "upgraded from it") would there be any conflict if I chose to use that disc/ID to install XP onto my own computer, as he isn't technically using it anymore?

    A lot cheaper than buying the full install...

    vista upgrade = trade.in previous xp (like turn in ur car for discount on new sale)

    so much for that idea(I'm too suspicious of the used ones on eBay... there HAS to be something wrong with them...)

    Don't buy "used" ones on Ebay. Buy the ones that say they are from Microsoft directly from Club Live.

    As long as you obtain the COA then the worst that you have to do is call MS and have them manually activate it. GL
