    Hi All..

I just bought a Sony Vaio SZ-VGN28GP, running on XP(pro), i know this is an old model, but i bought it new, it is now discontinued in Australia.

I uninstalled the firewall that came with the Vaio, and i'm currently connected via secured WLAN.

Then i installed MSN 8.1 windows live messenger, but it wouldn't connect, with an error msg, saying to check the firewall settings.

So i checked the windows firewall, and MSN messenger was allowed

I try to log in again, but still same msg.

Then i turned off the Windows firewall all together, but it still wouldn't work.
I've also tried other versions of msn messenger, but it still dosn't work.

Does anyone else have similar problems?
My internet explorer works fine, and the connection is excellent.

Please help, this is getting really annoying

have you checked the exceptions tab or else do you have anyother antivirus software instaled which may be blocking messenger connecting to the net?

if you got no ther firewall or antivirus software installed i just cant make out whats blocking it from connecting
well the only thing that i can think of you doing can be reinstalling msn messenger maybe that would help as it is automatically supposed to configure your windows firewall as long as yor not using a third party software
if not theres always windows messenger rite? ;)
    hope reinstalling helps

Thanks man, i've tried 4 different versions of msn messenger / window's live messenger.

I will try to connect via LAN tonight.
Something so easy to use, is so hard to get it working.

I might recover my laptop tonight again, and use factory settings. If that dosen't work, i'll call the call centre.
