I was trying to restore the OS on my Vaio MODEL PCG-5G3L using the Restore Partition.

When it got to 64% I received the following message:

    Serial Key Validation
Sorry, this trial version expired on Nov 13, 2039

It gives me the option to hit OK. Does anyone know what this is all about? The date today is Nov 13, 2009

Your feedback will be greatly appreciated!

Can you check the date and time settings in the BIOS?

I think its F2 immediately after startup.

date and time settings in the BIOS were accurate. I went ahead and clicked OK and got a bunch of errors when Windows first started up.

The system restarted itself, and everything seems to be working fine now.

    Thanks for your input.

    Strange...

I wonder if the date and time was incorrect and then after it then corrected itself after it started?
(I assume you connected to the internet?)

hello...I am a new user and yet unable to find out how to start my own thread. I have a problem.

I was trying to restore my Sony Vaio VGN-SZ670N/C laptop, I selected the wipe and erase option and it started, but then I realized it is wiping out the ENTIRE hard disk rather than C drive only! I stopped the process...but now the restore procedure doesnt list any installation. I think the wipe out process has put some locks on the hard disk which will probably need to be released.

anyhow, I need to access the hard disk somehow and get my data out before proceeding. The data is Very important.

    Any ideas?

...who starts a recovey process with important data on the HDD in the first place?

If its very important: worth a fe hundred/thousand dollars - take out the HDD and let a recoery specialist extract the data.

If its not that imortant: Take out the drive, place it in an enclosure and use some recovery software on it - make sure you write to another drive.

I agree that a recovery process should not be started with important data on board. But I had started it on my C: drive, while the data was in D:
But when the wipe and erase process started, it started to clean up the whole physical volume :( It should have done it on C: drive only.

Luckily, I am out of my misery because I have been able to locate a backup.

    Thanks anyway.
