    Hello everyone,
I'm about to buy a used but well-maintained vaio z series, and it won't come with a hdd/ssd. I can easily install a new ssd in the computer, but my question is, when a clean install of windows is applied to a laptop such as the one in question, will the hardware buttons such as the stamina/speed switch and the web/assist/vaio buttons still work? If not, can I download the software from sony to get the said buttons to work? I'd greatly appreciate it if someone who has had experience installing a fresh copy of windows 7 on the vaio t, s, or z series can give some input on this - essentially any of the vaio series that has the buttons.

(Now some of you might be thinking, why would this person buy a z series when the pro series is available? --- I would like to buy the z series because it has many of the functions that I like, such as the web/assist/vaio buttons and the stamina/speed switch. The pro series doesn't have the discrete graphics card that the former vaio z series had. Also, I like the design of the z series much more than the pro series, and it's something that I'd be willing to trade for a laptop that is barely heavier.)

I'm pretty sure you will need to download the relevant utilities such as the Power Management and Event Services to get the shortcut buttons to work but other than that you shouldn't really have problems installing Windows 7 on the VAIO Z as the drivers should be readily available on the VAIO Support site. There are a number of guides on this forum which can help you along the way such as this one.

Thank you very much; that was the perfect thread, I was looking through a few others but they weren't as comprehensive as this one.
