Yeah, everything installs fine for the first few minutes, runs great and all is well. Then, Visual C++ 2005 express fails to load, Office 2007 icons disappeared and only a black console window flashes when trying to open any Office program. Control panel fails to uninstall the programs, ccleaner same. Daemon tools does not allow virtual drives...I've reformatted 6 times within this month to try and fix all the software issues.

Looks like I'm going to reformat again. This time, I'm dual booting XP32 on here for all my programs and a vLite'd VB64 for ... absolutely nothing (I'll save it for the programs that can run in 64 bit and use all 4GB RAM...like AutoCAD, PSCS3 [or 4 when it comes out]).

Frustrating as hell, I have an 8 page essay due in a couple hours and Word doesnt open. I JUST reformatted too...this sucks :(

Do you have service pack 1?
    Are all devices properly installed?
Is the Vista you are on right now vLited at all?

I ask only because I have run Visual Basic and Office 2007 installed in Vista X64 with no problems, as I know many others have (at least for the Office)

I have to think it might be related to some other software you have installed if not one of the things I mentioned above. I even have a daemon tools drive without issues.

All devices are properly installed on this vLite'd Vista 64. Is it possible that vLite can cause all these problems? I mostly just removed lots of language files, useless programs (accessibility, movie maker, etc) and edited services.

On some reformats with this vLite'd DVD, everything works and then messes up after a few days. In this case, I reformatted a couple hours ago and messed up pretty early.

    =/

Wow, sorry to hear that. I never had any problems with Vista x64 with any of those programs you've mentioned. I never tried Visual C++ 2005 on Vista though, so maybe that could be the culprit.

Okay, try an install with an un-modified disc. I'm willing to bet that this will fix your issues. I used to use an nLited XP Pro that had tons of stuff stripped. It worked great for older systems but when you tried to use it on systems with HD Audio [among other things] you'd have serious problems. Just saying, modifying your Windows disc can be the issue, and many times is! You could have pulled a necessary Windows component!

Well, vLite isn't something that's approved or supported by Microsoft...

64-bit Vista works fine for me. If you install it in the supported way and don't do any unsupported tweaking, and you still have problems, I'll be more sympathetic (and more surprised).

But vLiting makes everything looks and feel so clean :( my start menu only had like 3 programs in the beginning...

I guess I'll stop using vLite and use only the XP32 and VB64 dvds Dell sent me. Ah man instability is a b***h.

@swarmer, I guess you're right...I just thought since so many people use vLite it would be fine and it didnt seem to remove anything important while I was customizing how much I wanted to strip it down. Maybe in the future I'll remove only language files...

Hey man, you can get stuff nice and clean without n/vLiting. What I do is I install, clean up EVERYTHING (stock favorites, stock photos/music, remove shortcuts and customize start menu and start bar [and I don't mean with stupid skins -_-], remove Windows components I either don't want, don't need, or I know will be an issue). Then I just use Acronis TrueImage to make an image of my drive. Downside is that it will only work on computers with the same chipset(or at the very least same vendor) and drive orientation (AHCI/RAID/ATA), but I get all intel chipsets so I can live, and when I need to make a new one that is not the end of the world either.

I used to love nLite but now I only use vLite for putting in service packs, it causes more issues than it does good I have found.

You've clearly removed too many things. Many people are running Vista 64 with no problems, so the answer to the question "Is it just me?" is a resounding "yes".

Install with an unmodified version of Vista, then ONLY install stuff like Office. Daemon tools works, but I suspect you've installed other software to try to tweak or modify the system in some way thinking that it's smarter than Vista. All of that stuff is crap.
