I know this is a long shot but I am going to ask it anyway. As we speak I am copying over all of the music on my ipod to my new laptop via yami pod. Unfortunatly it is all going to be jumbled together with the file names formatted as Artist-Album-Track#-Song

Is there any FREE software out there that can use that infor to group the files into artist sub folders and then album subfolders from there. I dont care about messing with genre or anything because I am always changing that.

In case this helps at all I am working Windows Vista Home Premium 64 Bit edition and there are about 10000 songs here, almost 11000.

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Dan

Do u mean you want to sort it in itunes or in the explorer window?

If importing into itunes, I think itunes has a sort by artist, by album, by year option.. no? Have you checked that?

What I am talking about is if I go into my music folder instead of havingg 11000 files, each artist will have its own folder. Then from there in each artist folder there will be a folder for each album. Like when you rip a cd into windows media player. If you rip 5 albums it looks like this:

    |------Queen-------Greatest Hits ------We Will Rock You MP
    |
    My Music ---->|
    |
    |------Kiss ------ Hotter Than Hell ------Hotter Than Hell MP3
    |
    |
    |------Twisted Sister -----Big Hits and Nasty Cuts ---- WNGTI.<P3

    if that helps

If I set iTunes to copy music to the itunes folder, would that do the trick maybe?

I think so.. in the features section of songbird, they mention something similar. Check it out, if you want.

PS., and yeah, I understand your 'problem'. ;) With 34,650 songs, I almost gave up on trying to organize them :p, and every time I get new stuff, I make sure they all go in the right place first up. ;)

Edit: oley.. I lost count of my music I guess.. LOL.. here, it' actually just 38,368 :p

Edit 2: I tried the one with itunes (mentioned below) and it works.. :)

Have you attempted to use iTunes built-in organizational feature? You can find the option under "preferences, advance."
