    Sound Drivers

    I just got a new Dell 1721 and I can,t get the speakers to play I think I need to download a driver but unsure where to get this? Am I right?

    Can you expand as what did it mean by "can't get the speakers to play"? No sound at playing music? no sound at playing movies? system warnings? etc ...

    If you plug in headphones, does it work? (If so, then it may be hardware.)

    Also, what sound chip do you have (according to device manager)?

    And are you using the preinstalled Windows, or did you reinstall Windows?

    In Device Manager, if you right-click the sound device and select Properties, what does it list as the driver? What company/version?

    My own Dell Latitude has a Sigmatel sound chip, and it works fine with no driver... or rather just Windows' built-in HD sound driver.
