Most programs have sound, but for some reason the following do not:

    1) Avast Anti Virus

    2) AIM

    4) YS Flight Simulator

Sound is enabled in all these programs and there individual volume is up. Avast has system sounds which when you look at them in the windows sound scheme show yellow speakers next to them and they don't play when you hit play. I verified the files are there and do play in windows media player.

    Any Ideas?

Are you using Vista? If so, Vista has the option of muting based on applications. i.e. I use it to mute instant messengers when I listen to music, or Windows Error *BEEEEP* sound. (lol). Click the volume icon in the tray bar and you will see something like this:

The left most one is the master volume, the rest is per-application, launch those apps and see if they are muted.
If it is no in the tray then get to it using Control Panel.

Thanks also, but this is also not the issue. It might be the programs themselves possibly?
