So recently I've noticed that when I plug in my headphones, not all sounds are played through my headphones. Some would stay in my laptop speakers, like games, or videos. Now some people may want this, but I don't, and I thought I needed a external soundcard or something in order for this to happen.

Info: I have a Lenovo T500. I recently installed Torchlight. I use W7 Home Premium. I did not tinker with any sound settings.

It is in Torchlight where I first noticed this. I plugged in my headphones and noticed system sounds, music, etc, were playing through my headphones but the game music/sounds were playing through my laptop speakers. At first, it was normal, everything was playing through my headphones. Next day torchlight is playing through speakers. And just yesterday I was watching a vid, then plugged in headphones, and all sounds were transferred except the vid. I closed the browser with the vid and restarted it and it was fine again. Everything was playing through headphones.

Any help so that all sounds will play through my headphones and just my headphones when it is plugged in?

Have you tried updating/reinstalling your sound drivers?

You should check the sound properties. My daughter got a new Toshiba and when you first plugged something into the headphone jack, it popped up a window allowing you to set the way you wanted it to behave. I'm sure she could change that through the control panel if she wanted.

So I opted to install the sound drivers that are provided to me via system update from Lenovo. I have conexant audio drivers, which really don't do much more than Windows 7 own drivers. It did, however, let me choose between Classic or Multi-stream mode, which is specifically what I wanted. Classic being all on speakers or headphones, multi being both.

It's a nice feature to have for gamers, like having voice chat on headset and game sounds on speakers, but for someone who uses noise cancelling headphones, it doesn't really work well, it just bothers my roommates if I try to play something loud enough to be audible through my headphones.
