Hi,
I was just wondering if there is any way to speed up my work laptop which is a Dell Latitude E6420 running Windows 7 Pro 64 Bit.
It takes a long time to start up, can I speed that up at all?

faster cpu, faster ram, ssd or hybrid drive.

Once in windows run- msconfig- startup tab- uncheck any non-critical applications. Also do a clean install of win 7. (or better yet have the IS department reimage the machine).

Hardware upgrades aside, you can do the following:
Run MSconfig as JOSEA mentioned, and disable all of your Non-Microsoft services (except anti-virus and auto-update services; check the box that says "Hide all Microsoft services" and go from there). Also disable any unnecessary Startup entries.
Run Ccleaner and/or a system cleanup tool of your choice to get rid of leftover temp files, cache, etc.
Defrag your hard drive. You can use the built-in Windows defrag, although Auslogics does a much better job.
