How does everyone keep their notebook running in tip top shape, what tools do you use and is there an order you use them?

Secondly I use MB and Windows SE for my antivirus, is there any stand alone scanners out there that can just run at a click of a button but don't run in the background all the time?

I'm responsible with my software installs and I don't install a lot of junk. By being proactive in this way, I don't have to "spring clean."

That works well for me but also you should use CCleaner to clean trash out and also uninstall junk software that comes preinstalled on the laptop that will insure those trial programs don't open your system up to more security risk. After that make new REcovery disk based on the new clean image and should you have problem in the future you would use those disk to restore it back to your custom setup without the hassle of all those trial programs. This is what I did for a coworker restore the system to factory and removed all those trial programs and installed MS Office 2013 and that left all the needed program they needed without all the useless junk software. And then created the new REcovery disk based on the new image and should they have future problem they just pop the disk in and restore back to the clean new image and start using right away because the setup was ready to go.

This is for the Savvy computer users not your everyday joe and jane doe and grandparents or kids. This is why there is this forum to help those that needed it otherwise this forum wouldn't exist.

Can't go wrong with the ultimate troubleshooter. It tells you everything your computer is doing, programs running, services, startups, and gives you detailed information on every program it has in it's large database. It also gives you recommendations for which to keep and which to disable. for "everyday joe" it's probably the best program going.

Personally though i just reinstall windows when i feel like my computer needs it. It's usually every year or so depending on how tidy I've kept the thing.
