Do you find that it slows down the system more than a desktop PC. I noticed it on my laptop. I am running an AMD64 3400, 1 GB of Ram, 4200RPM. After installing Spybot, Ad-aware, Zone Alarm, Spywareblaster, Window Washer, and Spysweeper I noticed a marked decrease in performance. Although, my wife has a minor configuration, Sager, 1 GB of Ram, 7200RPM HD, 1.6 Centrino and her systems still runs pretty fast. I guess it might be both the hard drive speed and the number of apps that are loaded. My desktop AMD 64 3200 runs just fine with all the same config. although the HD 7200 RPM.[|)]

The HDD will make a BIG difference because it has to load all the apps and monitor your files/system at the same time. My recommendation to fix the problem (short of buying a 7200rpm HDD) is to uninstall half to all that stuff. Zone Alarm is good because it's a Firewall and just install 1 (one) and only 1 (one) Spyware app, you don't need that many. You're just monitoring your system against spyware about 4 times, which will reduce your system resources and slow your system down.

Swapping in a 7200RPM HD and doing a clean install of WinXP did wonders for my AMD64 3200's performence. Several of us zv5000z/R3000z owners here have made the upgrade.

I used to use zone alarm and now use sygate. It is much better and you should give it a try.

i run spybot search and destroy about once every 2 weeks. keeps the spyware/adware/malware at bay. check out http://www.pcworld.com/howto/article/0,aid,116990,00.asp

i checked out and researched on all the latest firewalls and antiviruses out there and i settled on pc-cillin. it's just awesome. small footprint on ram and great performance. check out http://www.pcworld.com/reviews/article/0,aid,115939,00.asp for a very thorough comparison on the latest security software
