I just formatted my hard drive, but notice some strange entries in he startup menu. For instance, I 4 entries with different names referring to the same file. Also, when I googled a process called "WINotify", most of the websites said it was a spyware... Does anyone know if this is indeed a spyware, and if so, how should I go about removing it?

I forgot to post the screenshot...

If you did a total format and a full installtion of Windows, and have not used the Internet, then those shouldn't be there. Have you downloaded some other things or installed something from a CD. It is unlikely that it contains any spyware, but they can infect a computer in all manner of ways.

Thanks for the quick response! I did copy back a few pictures, music, etc, and also installed some programs (office, ad-aware, ZA, the usual) from an external HD. I doubt any of them would contain viruses or spyware since I scanned them with 3 spyware software and Zone Alarm. I did go on a few website, but they were all reputable ones - google, yahoo, NYT, notebookreview, cnet....

Will it work if I just delete these entries or do I need to do something else?

I think you should run a Spyware detecting program, and just confirm that they are actually spyware. If you went on the internet, with no firewall, then maybe it might have got infected. I haven't used a Spyware detecting program in quite a while, however, last time I did, used the Microsoft Anti-spyware download. Hoe this helps.

Checking your screenshot that isn't WINotify, it's WLNotify (small L, but it's an L) which from my quick search is a windows logon required process and certainly not spyware.

Yes, you right. I exported it a report by Spybot S&D and it was a small "l". Thanks for noticing this embarrassing oversight!
