I have two issues with my laptop that I'm hoping someone would have some advice on how to fix.

The first issue is when I open my notebook from standby mode, the screen has problems turning back on. I have tried several drivers (currently 179.13) and even enhanced the INF to deal with the standby issues (D2 state). However, no matter what driver I use, the screen either turns on with parts of the background missing and artifacts, which eventually results in shutting down manually or the screen doesn't turn on at all.

The second issue I have is that sometimes when I shut down the blue "windows is shutting down" screen comes and gets stuck, which also eventually results in manually turning off the computer.

    I have a Sager 5760 with a 7950 GTX video card.

If anyone has any advice on either of the issues, I would greatly appreciate it.

    Chris

Hmmm, not an expert on this, but only other thing i can think of other than drivers is the BIOS.
possibly need an update as well?

    Cool, thanks SemiGamer!

Can you point me to a website that would show how to do this as I've never done that before.

Well first of all you have to find the correct BIOS for your notebook. Screwing this up....
But before that try installing fresh WinXP and the newest nVidia drivers for your graphic card. If that is not the solution you can go for the BIOS then. Or you could contact Sager support, I'm sure they will be able to help you.

Hey all, thanks for the advice. I will try reinstalling XP. However, I went to the Sager site and the bios that I believe is appropriate for my computer says that it was uploaded in 2005... well before I bought my computer. Is the best bios to get, or is there a place to get more up-to-date bios?

    Thanks everyone!

    Chris

Just thinking - did you do something like a system restore?

I know I had shutdown problems with XP on my Medion and Vista on my Sony was messed up after a system restore...

I suspect unless you know the exact cause - error message - it'll be near impossible to identify...
