Like the title says my start menu looks like the old and boring XP look instead of Vista with the circle Windows icon which represents your starting point. I've looked everywhere I thought it would be but I can't find any setting that will allow me to change it to the look of Vista's start menu. Is anyone else having that issue?
Also my boot times for Win 7 are really slow. I don't know if it's because I have Vista running on the 1st Hard Drive and Windows 7 is on the 2nd Hard Drive.

You should specify which operating system is experiencing the problem, vista or windows 7?
-
Its 7....I thought that would be assumed since this is the 7 subforum...
-
I saw this happen once with a corrupt installation of Vista; same think could be happening here. Check your settings in Personalize. If this is a new install, try installing once more.
-
try enabling aero. You need to run the assessment first. (right click "computer" in start menu, select properties and run it from there.) if it's greyed out then you haven't run it yet. This also could be the theme you are running, so have a look there too.
-
Try right clicking on the desktop>personalize and then either selecting an aero theme or at least the windows 7 basic theme. that should change it back. Seems like somehow the windows classic (aka XP) theme was enabled.

Okay it just got back to normal. I did an update for the nVidia driver on my HDX 18t and the normal Vista theme start menu is back.
Thanks for all the advice guys.
My only issue now is that it seems to take forever to load. Like a ridiculous amount of time in minutes.
I don't know if it's because of Vista or what?
And what build are you guys running? Mine is 7000? Is there a more recent build and if so how do I get it? Will MS be updating the builds thru Windows Update or something? -
1) The public beta is build 7000.
2) There are more recent builds, but talk of getting them is prohibited here.
3) Microsoft does not/will not upgrade to new builds via Windows Update. -
And can we not mention the other builds at all? I mean I know there's one floating around (I would mention the # but I'm afraid of being banned)....
Anyways is anyone else having LONG boot up times with Windows 7? It's weird as hell. It takes forever to get to the login screen but once I log in it's like 2-3 seconds and I'm at the main page and up and running almost instantly...
Last but not least is anyone running this on an HP laptop with the fingerprint reader? If so have you managed to get the fingerprint software/hardware to work with Windows 7? So far no luck for me.... -

I wish I knew what people's experience with the loading time of the OS was. That's the ONLY thing that bugs me about it. Otherwise I'd be using it more. However it really does take minutes to load. At the part where the 4 orbs come together to form the Windows logo and starts pulsating it seems to stay there for minutes....
And then it finally gets to the login screen and I enter my password. After that it's about 5 seconds and I'm on the main page. And after that it's smooth as hell.
As far as builds I've heard there's build 7300 so I was wondering if MS was gonna release that to us as well. Anyways thanks for the info. -
The way I understand it is that they are up to about build 7046 (tho that may or may not be completed depending on when you read this. Build 7022 is the newest build that is "available" and the next public release will be RC1 which is meant to be around early/mid April.

No idea, not sure if they have a particular build in mind or if it's more of a wait and see what # they are on when they feel RC1 should be released.
Start Menu looks like XP....
