I did a Windows update recently and now the IE start page cannot be changed from msn.com. Anyone else noticed that? I like to have mine set to come up as blank.

What happens when you try to change it to about:blank? Do you get an error message?

Nope, no error ... it seems to take but then when I close IE and re-open it Msn.com is back again. I even tried setting another web page as the default and that didn't work either.

Odd because it's setting it to Msn.com, but perhaps you should try running Hijack This! and seeing if there's something in there preventing you from changing the start page.

Alternatively, if you haven't rebooted since your windows update you should try that.

Or you can change it directly in the registry...

yeah, directly from the registry is a good test, if it works, you've got some IE/MSN issue, if it doesn't then you're looking at some kind of spyware I think.

Okay .. got it. At first I did a Registry search for msn.com and deleted all the entries for it, but that didn't work. Then I did a Registry search for Start Page and found two places that had a long entry that pointed to msnhome and replaced those entries with about:blank and that worked. But I had to do this is Safe Mode - the change would not take in Normal mode.

    Thanks for your suggestions.
