    Hi,

    I've been having a problem recently in so far as when I click on a shortcut within the start menu the program doesn't launch. Nothing happens at all.

    This happens for about 75% all the programs in the menu. The only way to get the program open is to locate it on the C drive and open from there.

    I've run two complete virus scans and defragged the HD (not the registry) and still the problem remains.

    Any help would be appreciated!

    Aaand only start menu shortcuts are unoperational? Have you tried creating a shortcut from the *exe in your C drive, then moving it to the start menu and then try to run the application from there?

    EDIT: Oh yeah, since when do you have this problem? You can try System Restore too.

    Hey thanks for the quick reply,

    I'd like a fix for all of 'em as there's over 100+ that I'd need to make short cuts for.

    System Restore would be a last opinion really as I've done a lot driver set-ups recently and redoing them would be a pain.

    OK, when you right-click, Properties what does the "Target" area say? Do they point to the standard "C:\Program Files\*insert program name here*\*insert .exe name here*.exe" or something is different (drive letter, etc.)? Any other shortcuts work correctly, right (ex. the desktop, "Recent Items" in your Start menu)?

    Have you tried just loading a restore point?

    Quick update;

    Seems all the shortcuts are back working again, as fast as the problem came up its gone away! Strange, I'll be keeping an eye on it.

    Did anything change during that period that might have led to the problem? Did you do any sort of "tweaking" that you've now undone? Have you installed/uninstalled anything? Does anything show up in your event logs for the relevant period of time that looks like it might be related?

    Nope very little done in the last few weeks, just gaming and some light office work. The fact that it went as soon as it came would have me think that it could something like a virus in the background but AVG hasn't turned up anything.

    As I say I'll keep a eye on it for any changes.
