It seems that in the past 2 or 3 days my start menu search has starting malfunctioning...it will not show a result for any search but instead it always gives me links to certain folders. So for example, if I typed 'word' in the instant search the results would be 'Programs' and 'Control Panel'. Anyone have this issue

Have you checked the search options in the start menu?

Right click on the taskbar, select properties, go to the Start Menu tab, click customize, then check the Search other files and libraries and Search programs and Control Panel items.

Yes I have those options done already. It was working earlier but I don't know what happened to it.

Did you install anything 2 to 3 days ago? I've seen search problems on Vista that started after Outlook was installed, so I'm curious if this is the same thing.

Something else to try: go to Programs and Features, click Turn Windows features on and off, then deselect Windows Search and Indexing Service (if it is already selected, mine isn't) and click ok. Reboot, then do the same thing and turn things back on. Reboot and see if the search works again.

Hi kegobeer, I have not installed anything recently. I will try disabling/enabling the Windows Search function soon and let you know.

You can try doing a Windows Update..sounds like a bug. If that doesn't work one thing that will work is a Repair of the Operating System. See my post #5. Click!

You will not lose any files whatsoever doing this procedure.
