    Hi:

    I have a hp 6500 laptop. Recently I've noticed that the startup is very slow. Upon logging in, for about... 30 seconds after everything has loaded, nothing happens. For example, I log in, and everything that I'm supposed to have loads- AIM, Objectdock, Windows Sidebar...etc. But when I click on mozilla or itunes, i usually have to wait for an extended period of 30-60 seconds...

    What is the issue in this case?

    Ouch, you've got some resource-hungry startup apps there.

    I have a dv6519tx (running XP) and mine takes a while to load. It used to be much worse but I tracked that down to Norton internet security. As soon as I removed it i knocked at least 20 seconds off my startup time.

    4. Get Quicker Internet Confirmation!

    The last item to load and confirm on some systems is the internet connection itself. Many people have complained that, it may take as much as 10-15 seconds for Vista to confirm the connection during which they cannot do anything. I have experienced this myself with one of my SSDs and subsequently learned about this tweak.

    In fact, I have used it on all my systems (none of which are network connected locally) and find my internet connection to now be much faster and a definite start time improvement.

    The process is simple and as such:

    1. Click 'Winkey' + R to get the 'Run' window;
    2. Type 'services.msc' and hit enter;
    3. Scroll to one of the final entries which is 'Workstation'
    4. Double click to open and disable it; and
    5. Reboot and Voila!!

    NOTE: This tweak is a great enhancement for standalone systems that use wired or wireless internet such as I. It is not so good if you are at home or work with a LAN or server configuration. I would not advise it on any LAN environment because you will not be able to access any files over the LAN. Its a standalone tweak only!!

    i'm confused...
    i'm using a wireless network that i've set up at home..
    other computers are connected to it through cat 5 cables and theres also other computers using wireless internet.
    can i use this tweak still?
