The NVIDIA graphics chip in my Sony FZ190 is experiencing the dreaded BIOS green dots syndrome. When I boot up, after the windows logo I get a blank screen. Safe mode works just fine. All of these are known symptoms of the Nvidia chip issue and Sony is set to do an on-site visit to replace the motherboard sometime next week.

So, in the meantime, I uninstalled the NVIDA driver and am using the stock Win 7 VGA driver which allows the machine to at least be functional but of course no graphics acceleration. But now it appears that the SLEEP option is not avialable to me. So my question is, does anyone know if the stock WIN7 vga driver even support sleep? I know from some reading tonight that the video driver must support sleep for it to be shown as an option.

    Thanks,

    Gary

The base VGA driver does not support sleep, I'm afraid.

Thanks for that! I can live without the sleep function till the motherboard is swapped out. I am just relieved to know the grayed out sleep option is just the result of my using the VGA driver and not something else to track down.
