    Hi All,

About 18 months ago I bought a Vostro 1500 (so it's out of warranty) like many other people at that time I got a CPU whine, I had it replaced several times but it always had the same problem so in the end I just kept it.

Under Windows XP/Vista I had been able to stop the noise by unticking "Enable Popup Mode" in the RMClock application, but unfortunately under Windows 7 changing that option does nothing. If I tick "Disable C4 Mode" it stops it, but then the laptop freezes about 10 minutes later.

Does anyone know of an equivilient utility to stop the noise on Windows 7? If not I''m going to have to go back to Vista or XP :(.

    Thanks in advance.

I'd check with the people who developed RMClock and see if there is a Windows 7 release planned.

No it doesn't really go away.

Solved this issue on my Inspiron 1720 using RMclock. Apparently the T9300 was whining like a cat. :D RMclock works with Win 7, but once again I'm not sure if the steps I did are similiar to yours. Worth a try, I can show you the steps if you want to.

Erm, did I miss the solution in there, or are you just saying it's normal? I'm aware the whine is very common/'normal' but I need to shut it up because it drives me crazy :p.

If you could let me know your RMClock config under Win7 that would be great, thanks.

There shouldn't be a difference in using XP/Vista/Win7.
Read this thread carefully, it contains everything you need to know (and maybe even more :)
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=276661

If you use the 64bit version of Win7, you need replace the RTCore64.sys file with a digitally signed one, just search the forum.

    Good luck!

In my case the whining has never completely stopped, i hear it from time to time and it can be really annoying.. but it got definitely better with RMClock.
Just concentrate on something else, listen to music for some minutes and it should be ok.
