I ran four Microsoft Updates, and during the process I had to do a hard shutdown. They all installed without issues, however two folders remain on my C:\ drive with cryptic names like "5e9bbe9247442125a4717e6762984b."
They each contain the following files:
Windows6.0-KB[UPDATE NUMBER HERE]-x86.cab
Windows6.0-KB[UPDATE NUMBER HERE]-x86.xml
Windows6.0-KB[UPDATE NUMBER HERE]-x86-pkgProperties.txt
WSUSSCAN.cab
Are these just temporary folders left behind from the installation? Do I have to live with them as they stare me in the face every time I navigate to a folder? I moved them to the Recycle Bin and restarted with no apparent side effects. However, I'd rather not delete them until I got a few second opinions.
Thanks,
Peter

Does this mean you had the install process hang and had to force a reboot yourself?

After the computer rebooted the next update wouldn't get past the "searching for updates" stage. These were manual installations - direct file downloads.

possible that vista is blocking those updates if no validation was involved prior due to the files downloaded (wild guess)
cheers ... -
It validated before I downloaded them.
