I hate to post an "I NEED HELP" topic, but I've searched around on google a bit and cant seem to find what I'm looking for. Whenever i open any video with windows media player (version 11) the videos play fine, no problems at all, that is until an open window is dragged over any part of the actual video. When this happens my computer just locks up, a fan comes on (im assuming its the GPU fan, although I'm not positive) and i have to wait about 10 secconds to move the mouse (it gives a tiny window where it accepts input then freezes for another 10-20 sec.) This in itself is fairly avoidable, but the Im having the same problem with any .mov format movie as well (either in my browser or off my HD) although the freezing is independent of any windows over the video, from the second they are opened the computer tweaks out. These problems don't seem to affect VLC media player, so im wondering if anyone has any ideas? Any help is greatly appreciated. :)

What does task manager say when these problems are occurring? Which process is causing the slowdowns?

A beep would imply a buffer overflow. It probably means that your CPU is too busy handling some other high priority task that it doesn't have enough time to take care of the inputs from your interface devices (mouse or keyboard), which would then cause the device buffer to overflow and result in a beep.
So, to solve this issue, you will need to find out which process is taking up all of your CPU usage.
