So Ive been slowly xfering all my stuff from my old laptop to my new 9100. I have tons of files from pics, to word docs, to excell docs, to music, and everything inbetween. It was all in folders I made under my old "My documents" folder. Anyway, I have x-fered everything over manually using CDRs including email files.
Most of it is sitting on my very messy desktop in folders I created till I move it where it belongs. Email, I imported into Out. Express and then from there I imported it into Outlook.

I have noticed that my new MY DOCUMENTS folder on the 9100 (which I have not touched yet) has gained a few random folders from the group of folders that I have on the desktop. If fact there are 4 or 5 folders that are from within those desktop folders now living in my new MY DOCS folder.

    stay with me....

They are very random and only about 4 or 5 from a list of about 20 folders organizing my old stuff.
Within these new copies of several old folders, there are from 1 to 5 random email files. And they are not the files from outlook Exp that represent an email folder (in OE mail is stored in files that represent a folder from OE rather than individual emails)
These random email files are not tied together in any way but they have been put in these random few folders that have been taken from my big list of desktop xfered folders. The old files that live in these folders are not in these new copies in the MY DOCS. Only a few random emails.

Does this make sense to anyone???

Does the MY DOCS folder automatically try to gain folders or files from somewhere??

    sorry if its confusing.

Very confusing...and Monday is the wrong day for such a question.[ :)] Just to confuse you even more, do you sometimes switch where you save things between the My Documents system folder and a My Documents folder on your root drive? Let me explain...

I have a bad habit of creating a My Documents folder on the C: drive. Windows also creates a My Documents folder as a system folder usually stored under your user profile. I'm thinking if you have those two folders, somewhere along the way, files got duplicated between the two. Now that you're reconciling everything, those duplicates are showing up....is what I'm thinking...not neccesairily what is happening. Perhaps you need an app that can check for duplicate files. This way, you can compare date and time stamps, file size; and then save in the correct location while deleting the file in the incorrect location.

Sorry. I will try to make this simpler.
And thanks for attempting to understand it by the way!!!

    I have a new laptop.
I have transferred via CDR a LOT of folders with various docs/files
that used to be in my old laptops "My Docs".

In my new laptop. I have only put all these files on my desktop so far. I have not put ANYTHING in the new "My Docs" yet.
There were a few folders in there already from the Dell installation.

I eventually saw some new folders (several) that were from the files I transferred. Keep in mind, I never put them in the new My Docs.

Now in those several folders (grabbed from my Xferred files on the desktop, are NOT the files I had in them but just a few random email files.

It makes no sense to me.

Windows grabbed a few folders and put a few emails in them and put theme in the MY DOCS and I dont know why or how.

OK! I have pinpointed more what happened. But not why.

It seems that XP found among all my folders on the desktop that were transfers from my old PC, several folders that contained (among many other files) a few .eml files that were attachments I had saved. It took those folders and ONLY those .eml files within those folders, and put them in my MY DOCS folder. It left anything else that were in those folders behind.
I dont know why this happened but thats what happened.
