Not sure if this goes in the Windows section, the hardware section, or the dell section...

Anyway I have a new Dell XPS 15, but unfortunately it doesn't come with an RJ-45 ethernet port. I went to Fry's and picked up a Linksys USB3GIG USB3 to Gigabit ethernet adapter. It worked well for a few days.

A few weeks ago, the adapter randomly started disconnecting. I would hear the Windows USB disconnection sound, followed by the network icon changing from the hardwire connection icon to the wireless icon, and finally the device would disappear from device manager. I would have to manually unplug and replug the adapter back in for it to be re-recognized. This problem has been getting progressively worse, especially since all of my files are on a network server and I rely on a network connection for accessing somewhat large files. I disabled the USB selective suspend option in the power configuration I am using, and that seemed to help for a time, but with the requirement of a high-speed connection to my network that fix seems to have lost its' effectiveness. I am running the latest driver for the Linksys USB3GIG dongle.

Not sure what the problem might be. I would say hardware, but this is the 2nd XPS I'm using as the first had a problem with the power button and motherboard and the previous XPS I had faced the exact same problem with the USB3 gigabit adapter. I would say Windows, but I've disabled the USB selective suspend option and I'm not sure what other settings might be affecting it. The only other thing that leaves is the USB3Gig adapter is crappy.
