    Hi people,

I started seeing this black window while composing messages in GMail (Firefox 5).. It was fine till last evening, but this morning, when trying to compose message / reply to a message, I see the compose message section completely black!!

This happens only with Firefox but not in IE.. When I open GMail with IE, its working fine and well..

Can someone shed more light on this problem / the possible fix as well, please?

    Thanks in advance.. cheers

    Update:

Went back to Firefox 4.0.1 and this error / malfunction / whatever, is gone.. now the message composition box is white and fine...

Does anyone else who has Firefox 5 seen the same problem?

I was wondering if it was due to some add-on (particularly with the appearance add-ons) but I'm not able to figure out which one it might be.. I tried different appearance' or themes, but the issue is seen with all themes that I tried..

Anyway, for the moment, I'm back to Firefox 4.0.1..

Using Firefox 5, no themes and only a few add-ons. No problems at all with gmail composing/replying.

Strange.. I see this issue with Firefox 5, both on my desktop PC (Win 7 x64) and laptop (Win 7).. and it was fine in both places with IE. I then moved back to Firefox 4.0.1 in both by desktop and laptop and its working fine...

There seems to be something with Firefox 5 and some addons.. but its got nothing to do with the themes or appearance, because even with the default firefox appearance, I see the issue.. don't know if it's some addons!!! Have to see what is the common addon I use in both and see if disabling them resolves this issue...

Update: Firefox 5 in safe mode (all add-on's disabled) works fine.. I don't see the blacked out message composition box.

Then I checked by disabling each addon one by one, but the issue remains.. so I wonder if its because of some addon' or something else.

Going back to Firefox 4.0.1 is all fine and well! :( Bohh....

Did you try disabling all your addons, and then turn on them one by one?

Kinda weird way to debug to turn off one by one since your safe mode works.

    Well, thanks...

I 'caught' the culprit after repeated trials and tests - it was ChromeEdit Plus.. I had used ChromeEdit Plus to set the background color of a blank page to black (from the default white).. for some reason, this was messing up with the message composition box in GMail.

Now, disabling chromedit plus (and I realized just disabling is not enough) and changing / removing the relevant code in the "UserContent" file resolves this issue...

So, now I'm with Firefox 5 but without ChromeEdit Plus or that code which was setting the color of a blank page to black... and its all working fine now.

But what has an about:blank color got to do with GMail message composition window? :( I'm asking because I don't know about how those things work.. Anyway, all is well now (though I really hate to have a bright, white page hit my eyes whenever I open a new tab.....)
