Hi,
A friend of mine is just about to receive a laptop and I was wondering what the best way for him to stress test his machine to make sure that everything's working alright would be. He has 21 days maximum to return the item (he bought it off HP Shopping) if there are any problems. Any ideas? What I had in mind was the following:
1) CPU Test: CPUBurn
2) Memory Test: memtest86+
3) Hard Drive: dd on Linux (not sure about Windows)
4) Network (wireless + LAN): Transfer 40 GB and check for any drops or errors
5) Cinebench
6) PixelBuddy or UndeadPixel to check for deal pixels
There's still things such as USB, firewire, ExpressCard, etc.
However, he's not very technical so I'm not sure if I can walk him through these steps remotely.
Are there any applications that you know of that put all these together? Any additions? Thanks.

how do you check transfer for error?

Which transfer? Under Linux, if it's a network transfer, I can always run ifconfig on the interface to see the number of bytes sent and received and any errors. dd also gives you errors. Is this what you were asking about?
