Did you update drivers for your graphics card?

No I have the original drivers---the only thing i am very good at is ebay and paypal as that is where all my experience is...

After boot up i have to go to control panel and set the screen res and then everyting is fine until the next time i turn the machine on---at that point it will be in the low vga res...

As for computing I am at best a novice at this point...

    Thanks guys...

I hope it works out for the OP.
Just wanted to advice him / her to go to Gateway FIRST; in all my life with computers and windows update I have never downloaded a device driver that has not %&#!= everything up. This goes as far back as Win98. These days I don't even consider downloading a GPU driver from Win Update.

I started the download and it started the download---but said it would take 1hr and 20 min... does that sound right that it would take that long (75 kb) ??? After a few minutes i got the warning chime and was told it couldn't download and that it timed out---I'm pretty new at this and have no clue what that means !!! Could it be because of my firewall or anti spy stuff running ???

I am not even close to a card carrying geek and have much to learn but it seems like I read something to this effect---I tried the gateway download...

    Thanks...

UPDATE: This time instead of just clicking the link from the post above I went to the gateway site and entered my serial num... I got a choice of 2 nvidia drivers 1 was the same as from the post above, so i tried the other driver... It went right in and took only 9 minutes...

I copied it to my desktop and when it downloaded completely i re-started and saw the icon... After i double clicked it I extraced all files (un zipped i think) then re started again... I was still in 640x480 so i went to control panel and re set the res clicked apply then ok... After restarting yet again---it came up in my chosen res !!! There is still hope for me and I am learning...

Fixed so far and it looks like updating the driver was all that was needed...

    Thanks for the help !!!

    Glad it worked!

(Curious minds wants to know why it stopped working in the first place, but then computers all have small gnomes in them that randomly corrupt stuff when they are boring. And yes, that is my professional opinion...!)
