I just bought a studio 15 laptop from dell and I thought I was getting Vista 64 bit. I have 4 gigs of ram and I told the sales rep I wanted the 64 bit vista. Unfortunately the 32 bit version of vista was installed. I am having problems with dell trying to get an upgrade disk to 64 bit. What I have found is its impossible! You have to do a full clean install, and they are not going to send out a full copy of vista for me, which is what I would need.
I am pretty much stuck with paying for a new 64 bit version of vista myself. Does anyone have any other solutions?
    Thanks,
    Chris

Unfortunately Chris you are correct in that you need to do a clean install as you can't upgrade 32bit to 64bit. And yes you will need a 64bit Vista disk to do it. If you ordered your laptop on line don't you have the specs printed/saved that show what you ordered? If the specs are wrong they have to take it back(don't they?).
    Good luck.

you just need to get a hold of a vista install disk. your key should work for 64 bit version of your OS.

I have talked to dell 4 different times asking about an upgrade disk and they all said I would have to send my laptop back!!!! I would have to return it and buy a new one with the new OS on it!! That sucks!!
I called again today and asked to be put in contact with returns! I told the lady my situation and said I didn't want to do business like this. She gave me a 75 dollar credit back on my card and sent me a new vista os 64 bit!!! Heck yes,

I heard that only certain versions on vista 64 bit will recognize dual core processors. I am a little confused because I know my core two duo is 64 bit capable. I should be okay right? On the windows vista web site it says only the ultimate, and top end versions of vista 64 recognizes dual processors. Am I reading this wrong? I have the low end premium 32 bit vista and it seems to read my dual processors.
    Thanks for any input,
    Chris

Sweet turn of events, Golfandcards! Yes, you can install 64-bit on your laptop no problem and it will recognize your dual processors. Enjoy!

    Awesome.

All versions of Vista from Basic to Ultimate, 32-bit or 64-bit, support dual-core processors.

That's dual processors. A dual-core processor is different.
