On my laptop I'm stuck with the username Administrator when I log into Windows. When I installed the OS it didn't prompt me to change it and when I go to Control Panels >> Account Settings, it won't let me change the name either.
So am I just basically stuck with that name?

You cannot change the name of the administrator account, because well, it's the administrator account.
You just need to create one new user for yourself, and give it administrator access.
Once you create a "real" user account, it will stop prompting you to choose administrator to log in.
If you've been using the admin account for a while.. you'll have to go in and move your documents into the new user. All programs should still work though. -

To get a real view of all the users on your computer you can go to Run and type in 'control userpasswords2'.

I've always been able to change the name of the Administrator account. In fact, it's a good security practice to do so.
Right-click My Computer, go to Manage, then Local Users & Groups, Users, and right-click the account and change the name. -
yes, i've also always been able to / changed the 'administrator' name.
i'm currently running xp pro and one of the first things i did was change the administrator name to my normal login name. -
It's actually suggested that you first change the name of your "administrator" account and add pass, then create a user account that you actually use. It's more secure that way. By leaving the name of administrator default actually would give hackers a first step. I don't know how hacking is done personally, but that's what I have learned, just like leaving your wireless router name "linksys" out of the box or login "admin" & "empty pass"
above poster had instructed you how to change it.
once you have changed it and create another user account, the admin account will become invisible through normal use, unless through editing registry, or the nice GUI tweakUI
