Are there any at this time? Malibal and other reseller have the Window 7 home premium OS for $80 dollars, but I still think it is too expensive.

Thanks for any advice and or suggestion.

What is that? You mean you can get it free even without a laptop purchase? By any chance you are a computer engineer as your major?

Yeah that service is accessible for any students in the school that has the MSDN-AA, check if your college/university have MSDN-AA before buying any microsoft software you want, there you could get free microsoft software (except for Office Word, Powerpoint, Excel, etc. :( , but stuff like Visual Studio, One Note, XP, Vista, 7, etc...)

Well not quite a computer engineer, but a Systems Design Engineer as my major :p

Well I don't know if it work, have not received an email yet.

No man just read the fine print, it an upgrade version, meaning I need to have either Vista or Window XP DAM

I have a question does the digital download only a 1 time use, cause there is a 64 bit disk kit that cost $14 buck which is the actual copy of the disc. Does this mean that for $30 buck it a one time use or can I keep downloading it over again in case my computer need a re-boot?

Wait can I get it for 14 bucks only (hard copy)

Let me know, I'm so confuse

    Thanks

as long as you have a valid key you can reinstall, once you do it 5 times I believe you will need to activate by calling microsoft but thats a quick and painless procedure

you can also download from digitalriver ( a MS subsiduary ) and create your own DVD and not need to keep downloading it you just use that DVD with your Key

Yes but since I will be receiving a new laptop, how can I even install the OS to it without a CD? It would cost me 44 dollars as compare to 80 dollars from those reseller, what do you think? Also this is professional, and the OS from reseller is only home, so I don't know what the differences between those two.

If your laptop comes with Win7 Home Premium, and you have access to a win7 Home Premium disk, I believe you can use the serial number that came with your laptop to activate it. The disk can be a full retail version, upgrade, or oem install disk.

The situation we are disscussing here is a little different, because the computer comes with win7 home premium, but the disk from Microsoft ultimate steal site is a win7 Pro. So in this case you can't use the serial # that came with your computer.

But you can still install win7 Pro on your computer, using the upgrade disk, and activate using the serial # that comes with the disk. You have to use the "double install" method outlined in the article by Paul Thurott that I linked to. Here's the link again. I am 97% sure this will work as I've done it on two computers. In both cases I used the win7 upgrade disk, and the serial number that came with the disk to do a clean install on a new harddrive.

I was a little surprised that Microsoft ultimate steal site only sells Win7 Pro. I don't know why they chose not to sell Home Premium via that site. You'll have to check out the difference between Pro and Home Premium to decide for yourself if it'll meet your needs.
Windows 7 editions - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

One nice thing win7 Pro can do that win7 Home Preimium can't is backup the computer harddrive to another computer on a network.

Some laptops (sager) don't come with a pre installed OS and you have to install your own, or tell the retailer to do it for $$$.

My Sager will not come with an OS if I opt for this deal. My question was I must buy the CD kit as well ($15) along with the $30 so that I can install it in my new notebook, is that correct? If I opt out of the $15 then I will be stuck since Sager notebook does not come with an OS. So in conclusion $44 dollars for Window 7 Professional or 80 dollars for Window 7 Home already install.

    Help me choose!

    Thanks

Which I don't so should I just buy the $14 dollar disc as well so I can be safe? And profession is better than home right, and at that price it better than what I get with $80 OS is that right?

This link that Full-English has posted is for people that already have a windows7 serial# that they will use to activate.

Since _Cheesy_ is considering buying a sager without windows, if he does this he will not have a windows serial# to activate the windows7 he downloaded from the link.

    My advise to _Cheesy_:
Buy your Sager with Windows7 Home Premium installed. Save yourself the headache.

But keep in mind AMD's RadeonHD 6990M will be on the market soon.

If you really are a student you could sign up for Microsoft Dreamspark (fee software from MS for students) download MS Server 2008 or MS Server 2008 R2 for free, follow the workstation conversion guides you can find on Google and use that, all for the grand sum of nothing. :]

It does not include windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2 uses the same core as Windows 7 but is obviously a server operating system. However allot of people have adopted it as there operating system. BUT! its 64bit ONLY! And it does not have all the features of Windows 7. Some games & drivers + some software will not work. If your not really into your geeky computer stuff stick to registering as a student and getting Windows 7 for 30quid.

This is Dreamspark, you will need to prove your a student to get downloads.

This is a guide for making Windows Server 2008 R2 into a workstation.
Convert your Windows Server 2008 R2 to a Workstation! -

As mentioned before Microsoft already do deals for students to get Windows 7, if your not into techy stuff then don't bother with the Server idea.
