I just got my confirmation email saying I'm eligible for the cheap student upgrade, I'm just wondering can I go from Vista HP to 7 Pro?
I want to do a clean install, so I'll make a disk using the guide here, if that makes any difference.

I went from Vista Ultimate x86 to 7 Pro x64 with literally no difficulties at all (except drivers, that's another story). That guide though isn't for doing a clean install with an upgrade disk. It just allows you to use the files you downloaded in the cheap student upgrade to be burnt on a DVD (or place on a flash drive) for install rather than running off the hard drive.

You'll want to look here for that guide.
