Not included in any OS, as far as I know. But if you need a cheap solution to using Word, Powerpoint extensions, then you can use OpenOffice.

Usually manufacturers will give you 90 day trials of MS Office, at which point you need to cough up a few hundred to keep it going or let it expire. They will also offer to sell you MS Office itself for the few hundred upfront.

As WackyT said, OpenOffice is a good starting point for basic word processing and the like.

Some good free solutions are AVG, Avira, Avast, Comodo, etc.

Or, if you're inseparably wedded (shackled, tied, enslaved - pick your synonym) to Windows, see if you can find someone who already purchased Windows Office Home and Student Edition but only installed it on one system - Office HSE can be installed on up to three separate computers (technically within the same household  ) under the basic retail license you get when you buy retail.

I'd give OpenOffice a try first, though (along with, possibly, an open operating system  ).

Which part is illegal? Installing the same retail version on more than one computer, or pushing the envelope on what counts as a "household"?

Can't you just use your old Office CD/DVD? Unless you don't have one that is.
I like Kaspersky for my security. Its quick and takes up little resources.

No, when you buy a computer with office from an OEM such as Dell, IBM, HP... It comes pre-installed with no disk & no serial number.

You can get the ultimate edition for $75 if you are currently attending college/university in north america
