The Notebook Review forums were hosted by TechTarget, who shut down them down on January 31, 2022. This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. For current discussions, many NBR forum users moved over to NotebookTalk.net after the shutdown.

Use HiJackThis and post a log on their website. Their forum members are very good at pinpointing malicious software.

Are your utilities up to date? If not, definitely update the definitions and try again. See if you can scan with a different anti-spyware suite or possibly a free online scan from a pay-for product. Scan with anti-virus software as well.

This is undoubtedly something that installed in the system. Try cleaning the computer with CCleaner.

Maybe do a system restore to a point before all this started happening? And try changing the default browser too. Don't know, but it might help.

To prevent this from happening again, switch to Firefox (with Adblock), and start using AVG. To cure it, now that you've got it, download AVG and run a scan.
