I have an Acer easyStore running Windows Home Server on it. I shut off some of the WHS Media Sharing features because I preferred Twonky Media Server to serve up Music, Pictures and Videos to my PS3 and XBOX360 over the network. However, my Twonky Media Server is not visible in iTunes or through my Airport Express base station (connected to my HT receiver). I was trying to use Firefly Media Server to serve up the music to iTunes and it was working fine, but they updated iTunes and now my Firefly server is no longer visible. To add to this, there is no new development on that project so I think that it's no longer a viable option. Are there any other media servers out there that can serve up music in this fashion? Paid or free, doesn't matter. I just want something that works reliably and is well supported.

Foobar2000 with upnp plugin can stream your library over the web.

I think the real problem is iTunes. Apple at best makes no effort to keep compatibility with third-party programs, and at worst breaks compatibility on purpose.

Just use a different client... one that supports DLNA or uPnP or something like that. Or... your client can just mount the drive and add the files to its own library.

You can probably still also run Firefly as well to serve to your Airport Express... just don't update the firmware on that. ;)

I guess I could try Foobar2000. The problem here is that my wife likes iTunes and tends to prefer to use that. Also I am looking for a solution that allows me to use the Airport Express Base Station to stream and use my iPhone as the remote.

I agree that Apple is the issue here not Firefly. However, there has to be someone out there that has media sharing software that works like Firefly on Windows machines. I will continue to run Firefly until I find an alternative that works. As far as the client goes, I will try out Foobar2000 on my windows machines. Any suggestions for media players for OS X that are similar?

I searched a little more and stumbled across a solution that I think will work relatively well for me. Although this solution details using J.River Media Center, any UPnP server should work (in my case Twonky). Essentially, I would need the following:

    1. Air UPnP
    2. a UPnP compliant Media Server (e.g. Twonky, Asset UPnP, J.River Media Center)
    3. an AirPort Express Base Station
    4. a Mini Toslink to Toslink cable (to connect the AirPort Express to the receiver)

Apparently there is also a piece of software called Airfoil but i have to do some investigation as to whether that will work.

Hope this helps somebody! Thanks again for the input.
