This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. For current discussions, many NBR forum users moved over to NotebookTalk.net after the shutdown.

    Support for MSN/Hotmail in Outlook Express ending

    Got this email today from Microsoft:



    I assume that OE will now fall into the unuseable catagory for many that still use it to grab email from Microsoft's http servers. Since this ability was left out of Vista's Windows Mail app from the start, I guess the obsolesence of OE was not too far behind.

    Just a heads up to those users who may be affected by this.........

    Windows live mail blows >.< my gf has it ( got the email and switched ) OE is far better >.<

    They stopped outlook support for hotmail accounts like a year ago.. weird

    thats why i got my own domain w/ email address so i can use outlook

    I assume you had the free Hotmail addy, and not the subscription-based one assigned via the MSN service like mine. I guess they let the paid accounts ride on OE a bit longer after dumping the freebies.

    Yeah i suggest you just purchase your own personalised domain instead of paying msn

    i like my @flipfire.net email address

    $12 a year for just the domain name . You can register your domain on MSN live so its @domain.com instead of @hotmail/msn. You can use it to log on msn messenger and check your email through hotmail but you wont be able to use OE with it

    ftp servers + webhosting + full email support will cost extra.. up to $105 a year
