Google's Larry Page all but denied that there is a Google PC in the works at yesterday's Google keynote. When questioned by a reporter he essentially acted as though he had no idea what he was talking about by replying "Is there a rumor?". Could be a bluff on Google's part, but who knows?

The google press person also specifically refuted this rumor as well. I'm thinking Google just likes to feed this stuff, as it gets them even more press. They aren't stupid.
