I hate Norton with a passion, and I understand that it's made by Symantec.

That said, how do you guys feel about Symantec's non-Nortion antivirus program - just plain Symantec antivirus. Does it tax system resources heavily? Does it create a significant decrease in speed?

The reason I ask is because my school offers it for free.

    Thanks,
    Peter

I"m using it now. It's way better than Nortons. I find it's RAM usage is higher than NOD32, and McAfee Corp 8. It's pretty fast and doesn't bombard you with stupid message pop ups like Nortons. It just works.

I got mine from my school too so I can't complain about the price.

IMHO, McAfee hasn't kept up with the competition lately. See pcmag.com review of security suties. If i were buying a security suite for Vista, i would first look at Norton 07, Kaspersky, ZoneAlarm 2007.

I would look at NOD32 and Kapersky before considering Norton or McAfee.

McAfee sucks...Period. The last version was okay but after I upgraded to the latest version, it turned my computer into a dog! Seriously, it would take me 4 minutes to just log off of XP. Needless to say, I went back the the last version!

Go with AVG. Their free version (which comes with daily updates from their mainframes) is better than most "paid" virus programs.
