I have a new HP Envy 14 Spectre, and it came with Synaptics Clickpad functions. Basically allowing 2-touch scrolling, 3-finger functions, etc. all on my touchpad.

The problem is it won't load automatically. If I boot up the computer and go into Chrome, these functions don't work. I have to actively go into my cpanel, go to the hardware section, and then the Synaptics section - this "activates" it, I guess.

How can I make it so the Synaptics program loads upon booting up, so I can use it immediately without having to go into cpanel every single time to activate the program.

(On msconfig, there is only one startup item by Synaptics Incorporated, and that's "Synaptic Pointing Device Driver" - this is activated for startup - and even when all the startup items are selected, I still have to go into cpanel to activate the Synaptics functionality.)

Help would be beyond appreciated. Many thanks.

    Hi,

My name is Deepa and I work for the Social Media and Community Team at Dell. You may refer to this link for further help:-

Using and Configuring the ClickPad - HP Customer Care (United States - English)

If I understand you correctly, every time you need to enable it manually and that is what you don’t want, hence I would suggest you one step which could be helpful for you. Till now you use to go to control panel and make the changes from there but now please try to click on start and type mouse control panel directly in the search bar. It will take you another window and please click on device settings and from there it can be enabled or disabled. The settings should not change on restart.
    Please reply for further help.

    Thanks and Regards

Thank you for the response. Unfortunately the clickpad is enabled. It's as though the Synaptics program will not load automatically upon booting up my computer. Even though it is marked "enabled," it's as though it still does not load on its own unless I go into the control panel and into the Synaptics tab of the mouse section (then it is "reminded" and thus loads then).

First thing I would try is a reset of the Enabled setting. Using a mouse, Disable the driver Apply > OK and close the window. Open the window again and Enable the driver Apply > OK and close the window. Sometimes this reset will make the setting 'stick' in the Registry.

Did you try installing the touchpad driver again, there should be a download somewhere at the HP website.

Have you waited to see if the touchpad eventually works without you doing anything?
Have you used any 'tweaking' software that delays the loading of software etc at startup and so might delay the touchpad driver?
I think some security (anti-virus) software also have this delay startup feature built-in
Also, check the logs (events) of your security software to see if the Synaptic Pointing Device Driver is being flagged and/or scanned and/or checked in the cloud. If it is not properly recorded that the driver is safe then it will be flagged every startup.
A few years ago Comodo Defense Plus was blocking my Synaptics touchpad and I had to plug in a mouse and enter it in Trusted Files, Comodo quickly fixed this though.

    Good luck :)

All the best, woz of oz
