So I want to sync my documents folder, music, etc folders on my netbook so they are always kept up to date with my main laptops. Is there a program that will let me easily replicate files on an on-going basis?

Even better and easier.. Do you have Office 2007 or where lucky to get invited to Office 2010 Technical Preview. You have Microsoft Office Groove (Sharepoint is it's new name under Office 2010) I don't know if it's on all editions of Office. It's designed to do exactly what you want.

It's simple to use: All you do is you right on the folder you want to sync, and select "Sync with Microsoft Groove", then you say you want to invite another computer, and on the other computer load the invitation, set where you the sync folder to be stored (It is the case you want to keep thing separate or have a different folder structure. I used the same path) and VOILA! Both system are in perfect sync. Works offline and online network, and all is automated.

In my case I sync my desktop with my laptop. A soon as my laptop arrives home and connected to the network, few moment later all my work on my laptop appears on my desktop, where I can continue to work.

I recommend DropBox. As long as you have ongoing internet connection, you won't have problem keeping in sync. And it is just so easy.
    1. Register
    2. Install on Netbook, set your account.
    3. Install on Notebook, set your account.
    4. Put all the files you want to sync on My Dropbox folder
And voila~ all your files there will be synchronized.

The problem with internet based sync, is that if you have large files, upload will be slow, due to your internet upload speed. Sending 2-3MB to a server with some high speed internet, will easily take 1-2 minutes as your upload speed is still very slow (usually is floats around 1Mb/s), not to mention that the server will probably not be fast.

Network bases sync is the best solution. You come back home, and when both system are on, it's sync in few seconds.

I used Microsoft's Synctoy to keep the My Documents folder in sync on two computers. I used a USB key so the procedure went like this, sync notebook with usb key, then sync desktop with usb key, then when I was done working on the desktop I would have to repeat the procedure the other way around, so it was a bit cumbersome but I wanted to have a usb key with me that was synced. Synctoy can also sync across computers across a network, not over the internet though.

Using Microsoft Office 2007 Groove is an interesting solution suggested by GoodBytes. I'll have to try that out sometime, I bought office 2007 Ultimate when it was on sale for $80 to students.

The other suggested mentioned also sound interesting but I have no experience with them.
