Any programs out there that will clean a system of redundant files and folders and invalid links and the like? Preferably freeware but I don't mind paying for software if it'll do a significantly better job than any available freeware. User friendliness is also desired.

    Thanks,
    Bryan

CCleaner will certainly help. It's a great free program.

Although CCleaner is good, System Mechanic is much more comprehensive

CCleaner, free. System Mechanic back in the day when it was first release used to hose windows systems rather often. I shyed away from it because of that.

I tried this tonight. I'll add this full disclosure info:

    1. The trial version only cleans 10 items.
    2. The registered version costs $29.95. If you want a refund, they refund only $19.95 (they keep $10 as a "bank processing fee").

After purchasing and downloading the registered version, it did not work (the trial version did, however). It would stop at the splash screen and Windows would throw a "had to close this program/send an error report" message.

The support FAQs are limited. I've written to the owner/developer (including the text of the error report) requesting either a fix for a full refund.

    When there's a resolution, I'll post back.
