A really odd problem has been occuring lately with my computer. When it boots up the whole computer will freeze and the HDD access light will flash every 1½ seconds or so like it's stalled..

This seems to happen when the wireless icon down on the taskbar at the bottom right is 'refreshing'. A little blue circle spins around and eventually freezes, the entire computer freezes afterwards. I've tried disabling my wireless card (it's not needed atm anyway) and I've tried taking loads of things off star up as well.

I'm not sure if this started happening after I installed SP1 but has anyone had the same sort of problem before? The whole laptop seems to hang when the wireless icon refreshes after booting.

Sorry if I haven't given much info... but I don't know what else to say.

Run the typical system checks,,,sfc/scannow at elevated command prompt in cmd window, also run chkdsk thru the disk your installation is on, if that does not get it working contact microsoft support,,service packs installs have a free support ticket from microsoft. Might also try reloading your wireless driver.

    Cheers

I'm not sure but I think (emphasis on the think) that I narrowed this down to my anti-virus. After uninstalling it I haven't had any issues. To be honest this did start to happen around the installation of SP1, so it might be a compatibility issue. Nothing on the Kaspersky forums at the moment but I'll keep it monitored and see if it happens again.

Either way my computer booted in half the time and didn't freeze.
